Innovation in Health Seems So Hard. Do We Really Need It?

Singapore and innovation have become synonymous over the years.

The country has been ranked the 6th most innovative economy in the world (2017 Bloomberg Innovation Index). Globally, it is the fourth-largest exporter of high-tech products, behind only China, USA and Germany. Singapore's Block71, home to over 200 start-ups, has been called the world's most tightly packed entrepreneurial ecosystem (The Economist).  To embellish these achievements, Singapore has also nurtured its fair share of unicorn startups the likes of Razer, Lazada and Grab.

However, is healthcare innovation keeping up to speed?

09:10 - 12:30Innovation in healthcare - do we really need it? [More Info]

Singapore and innovation have become synonymous over the years.

In the healthcare space, Singapore is renowned for being at the forefront of clinical technology. Despite this, its non-clinical innovative space is constantly trying to keep up. Administrative hurdles, clinical priorities and operating stumbling blocks have kept innovation at a merely "good-to-have" status.

While the industry is exploring how to spur innovation and investment in the healthcare space, cybersecurity is another huge issue that needs to be addressed. Technology allows healthcare providers to deliver higher quality of care but it should also ensure a seamless functioning of the business, without compromising on patient care. It is essential to have foundations laid out, but will incorporating an innovative approach be the key to success? How can we securely foster innovation in today's digitally connected world?

Innovation in health seems hard. Do we really need it? And how do we balance it? With the right experts and stakeholders at this dialogue, we will address these questions honestly.

Discussion areas:
- What are the real on-the-ground sentiments towards the issue of innovating in care settings?
- Operational and clinical priorities: Should leaders take a firm stand in prioritizing innovations? What would be at stake?
- Cybersecurity: How should healthcare balance security and innovation?
- Who, when, how and what?: who should be at the centre of innovation, when to innovate, how to innovate and what to innovate?
- How to incentivize the journey of innovation?
- Challenges, opportunities, case studies and action plans
